November 2007:EBA Officials meet with Bulgarian govenment representatives.
BBA and EBA´s Bowhunting Awareness Seminar held on 24-25 November 2007 were EBA aim to help Bulgaria develop and make hunting with bow and arrow possible. EBA First-Vice President Carlos Freitas, together with Ivan Yotov, got the opportunity to meet with government officials at the Bulgarian Agricultural Ministry on November 28.
The meeting was held in a very positive atmosphere and EBA presented scientifically data and information as well as explained the current bowhunting situation around the world and specifically in Europe. Views were shared about the possibility of going forward with the full legalisation of bowhunting in Bulgaria in a near future, following the trend that has seen more and more nations doing so in South Eastern Europe. EBA is very happy to know that there was an acceptance and openness to discussions from the local officials and that there is no principle opposition to bowhunting. EBA´s offer to provide further information and scientifically data and share its expertise in this process was accepted. Carlos Freitas said, " -We are very happy that Bulgaria can embrace hunting with bow and arrow as this will help Bulgarian development and fully integration on EU and both Bulgarian an foreign hunters can profit from this alternative hunting method”.
EBA will continue its support to this process in future initiatives in the region, not only in Bulgaria, but also in neighbouring countries such as Romania, Croatia or Slovenia to name a few where bowhunting legalisation is already moving forward. |

The European Bowhunting Federation (EBF) promotes high ethical standards in a form of hunting that is tens of thousands of years old.
The majority of bowhunters have hunted with firearms prior to taking up bowhunting. In the U.S., the second most cited reason is that bowhunting expands the opportunity to hunt because of longer seasons (bowhunting seasons are generally twice as long as gun seasons), earlier seasons and more liberal bag limits.
